Tips to get a fake tan

Waxing & shaving
Waxing and shaving should be done before applying a fake tan. Quite simply, if it's done after the fake tan has been applied then, the tan will be simply stripped away and all the hard work will be of no use. In fact there also may be some streaking making a person look quite horrendous. Not the results that a person is looking for.

Exfoliation
Exfoliating is very important before getting a fake tan. Remember that parts of the body that go dry are elbows, knees, ankles, the hands and feet. Special attention should be paid to them. Uneven or dry patchy skin will never catch the fake tan easily. This could ruin the entire look of the fake tan that you are looking for.

Moisturizer
Moisturizer is great for the body. In normal course it's great for getting rid of dry skin. The fake tan should be spread out evenly, remember that like all good things, less is more. The fake tan also comes out darker in dry skin. After application of fake tan, Moisturize and exfoliate the skin.

For the fake tan to work, it's important you apply the tan and let it dry completely. If you are applying the tan before going to bed, then ensure that it has dried out completely. Light colored bedding may be stained but it usually washes out. Also if you are concerned about the bedding getting colored, then put dark colored bedding.

At the time of application
Avoid wearing bra, knickers, socks and other tight fitting clothing immediately after applying the tan. These will cause the tan marks to appear when you have applied the tan. There are two options for the fake tans. Both lotions and mousses work great for the tan. But the lotions tend to stay longer as compared to the mousse. After application, a person can do all their daily activities and this includes exercising and playing outdoors. Usually the effect lasts for 5-7 days depending on the shade of the tan. If you really want a dark shade of tan, then apply another coat.

Using gloves to avoid runoffs
To avoid the tan coming on the hands, ensure that you wear the latex gloves, since the tan will then take 5-7 days to go. When applying, apply in circular motion starting from your feet and going up. The back is a hard to reach place and you should ask your friend or your companion to help you out. After you have completely dried out, give yourself 8-10 hours before stepping inside the shower.

Combating streaking
Sometimes there might be streaking. You can easily get rid of the streaking by exfoliating the next day. Those who have pale skin color may take many applications of the fake tan before the color is visible. Fake tans last only for a couple of day and need to be reapplied every 5-7 days for the desired look. They are not as permanent as the real tans.
